Yak/Silk Blending Fiber - 4 oz Rainbow Colors

Yak/Silk Blending Fiber 4 ounces

In our quest to find the perfect yak/silk combed top we were sent several different samples from around the world.  This is a 50/50 yak/silk blend that while it didn't make the cut for our dyed combed top, we found it to take color brilliantly.  The fibers are very short, only about 1" in length and there are a few yak guard hairs still in it, but it creates wonderful color and texture in carded batts and rolags.  Think something akin to silk noil, but with Yak!  There are also some recycled silk threads in it, making us happy to upcycle and create something beautiful from what could have ended up in a landfill.  All around, you can feel good about this fun and colorful fiber.

Included is 1/2 ounce of eight different hand-dyed colors for a total of 4 ounces.  As you can see from the batt we made, the color and textures from this fiber really pop!

I would recommend blending this with at least 50% wool to make spinning easier.  I tried to spin it straight and it spins a little like recycled cotton.  It is a little tricky to spin so blending it with wool works best for me.  Enjoy!

Note:  the batts in the photos are an example of what can be made with these fibers.  They are not part of the listing.
